Back and Neck Disorders

Back and Neck Disorders

People with a back or neck disorder typically think of their problem only in terms of their symptoms.  They focus on their back pain, their neck pain, the pain and numbness in their arms or legs.  These symptoms, however, can be caused by many different conditions.  Cancers, infections, and internal organ problems typically require invasive or surgical treatment.  Most back and neck disorders, however, fall in a category known as Neuromusculoskeletal conditions (NMS) of the spine.  These NMS conditions often respond favorably to more conservative and non-surgical care.  The following is a list of some of these NMS conditions and diagnoses.

  • Herniated Discs
  • Degenerative Disc Disease
  • Spinal Stenosis
  • Spondylolisthesis
  • Facet Syndromes
  • Back and Neck Strains
  • Back and Neck Sprains
  • Intercostal Neuralgia
  • Whiplash
  • Sacroiliac Disorders
  • Scoliosis
  • Kyphosis
  • Lordosis
  • Postural Abnormalities

What We Do

The Martin Chiropractic Clinic (MCC) focus is on quality conservative and non-surgical care for back and neck disorders like the Neuromusculoskeletal (NMS) conditions listed above.  MCC has been providing this treatment for over 35 years and has served over 16,000 patients.  The doctors and staff at MCC have over 100 years combined experience in working on these conditions and are constantly searching for new treatments and technologies to help people recover more quickly and more completely.

Who Is It For

For patients who have back, neck or related symptoms and who want to avoid invasive or surgical treatments, the system of care at the Martin Chiropractic Clinic is a solution that provides a chance for a more complete recovery if their symptoms are due to a Neuromusculoskeletal condition of the spine,. Unlike surgical and invasive procedures which only treat one component of the NMS condition (the pain trigger) and which can cause damage to supportive tissue structures, our solution treats all three components of many NMS conditions. Our approach helps to correct the underlying cause, seeks to repair the damage to support tissues, while reducing the pain triggers.  The goal is for you to be pain free and be stronger and more durable than when you started experiencing symptoms.

What to Expect

If you decide to seek care from Martin Chiropractic Clinic, the first thing you will receive is a consultation and screening exam.  This helps to determine if you might be a candidate for care.  If the answer is yes you will be given a detailed Neuromusculoskeletal diagnostic evaluation.  This evaluation might also include x-rays performed at the clinic, outside imaging such as MRI’s and other diagnostic tests if indicated. Once this diagnostic testing is completed, the MCC doctors will determine whether you could be accepted as a patient and if your care needs to be coordinated with other types of doctors or providers.  They will prescribe a specific treatment plan with options for a Basic Treatment and an Advanced Treatment approach. Your diagnosed condition, the treatment plan goals and options, and associated costs will be discussed with you in detail before treatment is initiated. Most treatment plans involve a series of visits over several weeks.  Comparative examinations are performed at regular intervals to evaluate the progression of changes in your back and neck health, strength and stability. If x-rays are taken initially, comparative x-rays likely will be performed towards the end of your treatment.  The results of your final evaluations will lead to recommendations for wellness care to achieve better permanence of your recovery and to foster better durability as you increase your activities.

The Next Step

It is important to understand that you as a patient and MCC may not be made for each other.  Some patients have conditions that will not respond to conservative and non-surgical care.  Your initial evaluation will help make the decision.  Other patients are either not able or not willing to spend the time and do the work necessary to affect their recovery. At the same time if you willing to fully participate in your care and you are accepted as a patient, the outcome of your treatment could be the relief you seek, improvement in your physical abilities and more freedom to do the things that you like.  Back and neck disorders can make you cranky, affect your ability to make a living, and interfere with your relationships. Imagine how feeling good, pain free, strong, durable, and energetic would affect your life and the lives of those around you.  Your next step … contact the Martin Chiropractic Clinic and make your first appointment … this might be your first step on the road to your recovery.
