Patient Centered Care

What We Do

The Martin Chiropractic Clinic (MCC) focus is on quality conservative and non-surgical care for disorders of the spine and musculoskeletal system. Today these disorders are known as Neuromusculoskeletal (NMS) conditions. MCC has been providing this treatment for over 35 years and has served over 16,000 patients. The doctors and staff at MCC have over 100 years combined experience in working on these conditions and are constantly searching for new treatments and technologies to help people recover more quickly and more completely.

Why Do It Now

Most Neuromusculoskeletal conditions develop little by little over many years. They often start from trauma or environmental stress that creates a minor mechanical abnormality that gradually, often silently, worsens and causes damage to joint, muscle and connective tissue. As this process advances, nerves can be irritated or pinched or inflammation can increase and finally trigger the pain or dysfunction serious enough to require care. With the hectic pace of life and the stresses in our society today the worsening of these Neuromusculoskeletal conditions has become more and more common. For too long patients have sought what appeared to be quick fixes or trendy invasive procedures, only to find that the benefits were temporary, relatively short term and often irreversible. The fix it quick approach has left our society burdened by ridiculous costs in work loss time, loss of enjoyment of life and the health care expense. Fortunately in recent years, there have been a series of technological advances in conservative and non-surgical care that give today’s patient an opportunity for a more complete recovery than previously possible.

Who Is It For

For patients with pain or dysfunction due to a Neuromusculoskeletal condition of the spine or musculoskeletal system, who want to avoid invasive or surgical treatments the system of care at the Martin Chiropractic Clinic is a solution that provides a chance for a more complete recovery. Unlike surgical and invasive procedures which only treat one component of NMS conditions (the pain trigger) and which can cause damage to supportive tissue structures, our solution treats all three components of most NMS conditions. Our approach helps to correct the underlying cause, seeks to repair the damage to support tissues, while reducing the pain triggers. The goal is for you to be pain free and be stronger and more durable than when you started experiencing symptoms.

Are We Right For Each Other

Most people and many health providers look at spinal conditions like a picture, something static that needs attention only when there is pain or dysfunction. The truth is that once initiated, spine and musculoskeletal systems act much more like a movie than a still picture. The conditions constantly change moving from scene to scene, sometimes pain free, sometimes painful and the process continues throughout your lifetime. In a way it can be said that the objective of an intervention or treatment for a spinal condition is to change the plot of your movie which in essence can become a horror show when you are in pain into a new movie that is happier, pain free, more empowering and maybe even a comedy. Martin Chiropractic Clinic is not right for all patients and not all patients are right for MCC. At the same time if you are accepted as a patient and you fully participate in your care, the outcome of your treatment could be the relief you seek, improvement in your physical abilities and more freedom to do the things that you like.

How We Are Different

The systematic approach of Martin Chiropractic Clinic uses conservative and non-surgical care combining traditional chiropractic with new treatments and technologies. All three components of your Neuromusculoskeletal condition are addressed and the environmental factors that may be an issue are considered. Patients are offered a choice between a Basic Treatment approach that aims treatment at the underlying cause and the pain generators and an Advanced Treatment approach that also helps to repair the damaged joint, muscle and connective tissue. All treatment plans have specific goals which are easy to understand, treatments are safe and comfortable and the treatment cost is a fraction of that associated with hospitalization or surgery. As a contrast, invasive and surgical treatment options can expose patients to dangerous drugs, the risk of anesthesia, surgical wounds, scarring and the permanent loss of critical support tissue with the resulting structural weakness. Worst of all many surgical and invasive treatments treat only the pain generator. The conservative and non-surgical approach used at Martin Chiropractic Clinic treats the pain generator and includes treatment to help correct the underlying cause and to help repair tissue damage without tissue loss. The goal is for your recovery to be more permanent and to help you be more durable in the future.

What to Expect

If you decide to seek care from Martin Chiropractic Clinic, the first thing you will receive is a consultation and screening exam. This helps to determine if you might be a candidate for care. If the answer is yes you will be given a detailed Neuromusculoskeletal evaluation, which might include x-rays performed at the clinic, outside imaging such as MRI’s and other diagnostic tests if indicated. Once testing is completed the MCC doctors will determine whether you could be accepted as a patient and if your care needs to be coordinated with other types of doctors or providers. They will prescribe a specific treatment plan with options for the Basic Treatment and Advanced Treatment approaches. Your condition and the treatment plan, options, goals, and associated costs which will be discussed with you in detail before treatment is initiated. Most treatment plans involve a series of visits over several weeks. Comparative examinations are performed at regular intervals to evaluate the progression of changes in your musculoskeletal health, strength and stability. If x-rays are taken initially, comparative x-rays likely will be performed towards the end of your treatment. The results of your final evaluations will lead to recommendations for wellness care to achieve better permanence of your recovery and to foster better durability as you increase your activities.

The Next Step

After 35 years serving Plano you can imagine there are a multitude of stories about patients and their experience under care at MCC. You can find a sampling of some of these stories on this website in the “Our Patients” section of the menu bar. You are encouraged to read about these individuals. If you become a patient, you will be able meet some of these people and others first hand. It is important to understand that you as a patient and MCC may not be made for each other. Some patients have conditions that will not respond to conservative non-surgical care and other patients are either not able or not willing to spend the time and do the work necessary to affect their recovery. Your initial evaluation will help make the decision. As to the matter of time, while no one likes the idea of a deadline, it is important to remember that Neuromusculoskeletal conditions, in general, gradually worsen over time. Delay in treatment is an important factor which could cause your treatment plan to be longer and cause your recovery to be less complete. When you suffer from pain or dysfunction from a Neuromusculoskeletal condition it affects your life and the lives of those around you. It can make you cranky, affect your ability to make a living, and interfere with your relationships. Imagine the effect that feeling good, pain free, strong, durable, and energetic would have on your life and the lives of those around you. More complete care leads to a complete and durable recovery. It simply is the right thing to do.
